Roscoe J. “Red” Barnett Jr., 78, of Terre Haute, passed away at 2:25 p.m. Monday, Oct. 29, 2012, in his residence. He was born in Middlesboro, Ky., on June 27, 1934, to Roscoe Barnett Sr. and Nellie Smith Barnett.
He is survived by his wife, Wanda Shelton Barnett; a son, Brad Barnett and wife Sue of Greenwood; four daughters, Neva Williams and husband Doug of Indianapolis, Denise Faudree and husband Ron of Indianapolis, Barbara Sherill of Greenwood, and Melissa Lawson and husband Charlie of Terre Haute; two brothers, Joe Barnett and wife Sandi of Medford, Ore., and Sheril Barnett and wife Alice of Middlesboro, Ky.; three sisters, Kathe Griffith of Lewisburg, Ky., Hazel Holmes of Banton, Ore., and Mildred Sells or Lebanon, Ore.; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a stepson, Jim Cottom and wife Carolyn of Rosedale; two stepdaughters, Diana Downey and husband Bill of Florida, and Debi Davis of Greencastle; several stepgrandchildren, stepgreat-grandchildren, and stepgreat-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Gene and Ray; and two sisters, Mae and Fairy.
Roscoe worked as a painter for Local Union 197, and was a member of the National Crossroads Bluegrass & Acoustics Music Association for many years.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, 2012, in DeBaun Springhill Chapel, with the Rev. Milton Roe officiating. Burial will follow at Center Ridge Cemetery, in Sullivan. Visitation is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 2, 2012, from 4 to 8 p.m. Online condolences may be left at:
