Mark S. DeLong, 54, of Terre Haute died Friday evening, Nov. 3, 2006, in Union Hospital. He was employed by Terre Haute Housing Authority for 28 years.
He was born Oct. 16, 1952, in Terre Haute to Arthur DeLong and Betty Kreager DeLong. Mr. DeLong is survived by his wife, Peggy Gauer DeLong, whom he married March 8, 1975. Also surviving is one daughter, Melissa DeLong of Terre Haute; two sons, Ryan DeLong and his wife Sarah, and Jerod DeLong, all of Terre Haute; a sister, Yvonne DeLong Avary and her husband John of Terre Haute; one brother, Chris Riggs-Saberton and his wife Karen of San Diego; his stepfather, Victor Saberton of Terre Haute; his mother-in-law, Bette Gauer of Terre Haute; one brother-in-law, Herb Gauer and his wife, Donna, of Terre Haute; one sister-in-law, Susan Gauer of Terre Haute; one niece, Emily Gauer; two nephews, Zachary Avary and Andrew Gauer; and one cousin, Rene Henderson. He was preceded in death by his father; his mother, Betty DeLong Saberton; and a brother, Arthur DeLong.
Mr. DeLong was a graduate of Wiley High School and Indiana State University. He was very active in sports and was a member of the tennis team and the football team while at Wiley and was also an avid Pacers, Colts and Indiana University fan.
Funeral services are 10 a.m. Tuesday in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 S. 25th St., with the Rev. Joel Burget officiating. Burial is in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Monday in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
