Warren Crooks

ROCKVILLE — ROCKVILLE — Warren Crooks, 92, of Rockville, died at 3:15 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 8, 2013, in Rockville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born July 7, 1921, in Greene Township, Parke County, to the late Fred and Edith Swaim Crooks. He was a graduate of Greene Township High School in 1939, and a graduate of Purdue University Winter Agriculture Course. He enjoyed farming and everything connected to farming. His wife of 70 years, Verna McArty Crooks, whom he married July 18, 1943, survives.

Warren joined the Parkeville Christian Church, and later moved his membership to the Rockville Christian Church, where he was an active member. He served as an elder for 53 years and was a Sunday school teacher for 50 years. He was a member of the Friendship class and served on the building committee when the new church was built west of Rockville in 1973. Warren was a 4-H member and leader as well as a Rural Youth Leader. In 1999 he received the Parke County 4-H alumni award. For three years he served on the Parke County Extension Board. Warren has been president of the Parke County Farm Bureau as well as being a delegate to both the state and American Farm Bureau Convention in Washington DC. From 1976 to 1996 Warren was on the board of directors at the Rockville National Bank. Warren served many years on the board of directors of Parke County, Inc. and Billie Creek Village. He served on the Billie Creek Village board when some of the first buildings were moved there and when the Billie Creek Village Inn was built.

Survivors also include one son, Allen (Janet) Crooks of Thayne, Wyo.; one daughter, Kay (Richard) Wolford of Fishers; six grandchildren, Davin Crooks, Nicole (John) Lowe, Stephanie (Tom) Pitts, Brian Crooks, Aaron (Andrea) Wolford and Shannon Rice; six great-grandchildren, Mackenzie Lowe, Joey Crooks, Ava Lowe, Kayla Rice, Jordon Rice and Elijah Wolford; three brothers, Fred Crooks of Greencastle, Dale Crooks of Rockville, and William Crooks of Minnesota; one sister, Sylvia Linn of Crawfordsville; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by five brothers, George, Daniel, Lloyd, Jesse and Charles.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2013, in Gooch Funeral Home, at 112 W. Howard St., Rockville, with the Rev. Don Hatfield officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Garden Cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. today at Gooch Funeral Home. Friends may sign on online guest register at:
