George Triemstra

TERRE HAUTE —

George Triemstra, 87, of Terre Haute, and formerly of Beaver Dam, Wis., passed away on Saturday, Oct. 6, 2012, at Union Hospital in Terre Haute. George was born on June 13, 1925, in Randolph, Wis., to Charles and Jesse (nee Dykstra) Triemstra. He was married to Phyliss Werner, and together they enjoyed 62 years of marriage.

He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Army from April of 1951 until January of 1953. He worked at Mercury Outboard Motors from 1953-57 and was a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service from 1957 until his retirement in 1986. George also ran his own upholstery business in Beaver Dam for over 40 years. Along with his wife, he moved to Terre Haute in 2009. George lived his life to the fullest; he was truly a friend to everyone he knew and an endless giver of his time and talents. He loved to play golf, visit with family and friends, play games, square dance, cheer on the Green Bay Packers, hunt with his buddies, and travel.

George was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Beaver Dam, but attended First Baptist Church of Terre Haute, with his family throughout the past three years. He also was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, National Active & Retired Federal Employees Association, and Dodge County Masonic Lodge No. 72.

George is survived by his wife, Phyliss of Terre Haute; his daughter, Julie (Charles) Dugger of Terre Haute; his granddaughter, Madison Wagner of Terre Haute; and his stepgrandchildren, Nathan and Gwendolyn Dugger. He is further survived by several nephews; a niece; other relatives; and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, John and Clarence Triemstra; and his sister, Sadie Paul.

A funeral service for George will be held on Thursday, Oct. 11, 2012, at 12 noon CDT at Cornerstone Funeral & Cremation Services, Inc., 135 Keller Blvd., in Beaver Dam, with the Rev. Jeffrey Nicholas officiating. Visitation also will take place prior to the service at Cornerstone, beginning at 9 a.m. Entombment will take place at Highland Memory Gardens in the Town of Trenton with military honors.
