Bobby Lee (Heavy) Earle Jr.

LINTON — Bobby Lee (Heavy) Earle Jr., 63, of Linton, passed away on July 11, 2014, at his residence. He was born on Sept. 20, 1950, the son of Bobbie L. Earle Sr. and Barbara June (Ball) Earle.

He was a 40-year-member of the Laborers International Union of North America, Local 204, in Terre Haute. He was an officer over 15 years and a field representative and president 12 years of LIUNA Local 204 in Terre Haute.

He was a strong supporter for workers’ rights and fair wages. His passions were his family and traveling with his wife, which included all 50 states and the Caribbean. Bobby was a 1968 graduate of Linton Stockton High School and proudly held the shot-put record from 1968 until 1978. He was an excellent baseball pitcher and was on the varsity football team from his freshman year through his senior year and was offered a full football scholarship to the University of Michigan, which he chose to turn down to stay in Greene County, Ind. He enjoyed staying in touch with his family and friends on Facebook, online games - including poker, reading and watching the birds in his back yard.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn (Benham) Earle, whom he met on Aug. 2, 1969, and married Dec. 1, 1995. He has three children, Leslie (Fred) Turnell of Fortville, Jennifer (Johnny) LeDune of Dugger, and Kathy (Greg) Ellis of Dugger. He has four stepchildren, April (Freddie) Neidigh of Columbus, Ohio, Steven (Amber) Morris II of Findlay, Ohio, Josh Mollett of Findlay, and Amber Mollett and fiancé William D. Kolling of Lyons; one sister, Phyllis (David) Moehlmann of Linton; one brother-in-law, Dallas (Carolyn) Benham of Lyons; one nephew, Aaron (Kim) Benham, of Linton; and one niece, Jessica Moehlmann of Terre Haute. He has 14 grandchildren, Danielle LeDune, Hunter LeDune, McKayla Ellis, Gracie Ellis, Madison Ellis, Cameron Ellis, Austin Barnard, Kana Turnell, Logan Turnell, Breanna Swaby, Brittany Swaby, Daisey Morris, Leigha Morris, Steven Morris III and one grandson due in August.

He was preceded in death by his father; and an infant nephew, Robert Moehlmann.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 15, 2014, with Pastor Dick Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, July 14, 2014, from 4 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday at noon until the time of the service.
