Fred Thomas Stevenson Sr.

ROSEDALE — Fred Thomas Stevenson Sr., beloved husband, father and grandfather,  went home to be with the Lord Thursday, July 3, 2014, in the home that he loved and shared with the love of his life for 55 years, Marjorie Davis Stevenson; she survives. Fred was born Feb. 28, 1939, in Vigo County, to Mahlon Stevenson and Gladys Hamilton Stevenson.

Fred was father to three children: Ramona (Randy) Weise, Rebecca (Terry) Mace and Fred Thomas Stevenson Jr.; and Fred was grandfather to eight grandchildren, Gary (Catrina) Herb, Nathaniel Mace, Fred (Amberlee) Stevenson, Greg Herb, Emily (Charles) Athey, Crystal Herb, Madison Stevenson and Glen Mace. He also had two great-granddaughters, Autumn Stevenson and Melanie Minkner; a sister, Norma Miller; along with several nieces and nephews. Fred was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Mahlon, George and Raymond; his precious sister, Gladys “Sis” Cuthbertson; and son-in-law, Gary Herb.

In Fred’s early work years, he was manager for the Rosedale Elevator and later retired from a career in accounting from Eli Lilly and Company. Fred loved his farm and especially loved to grow strawberries, which he did for several years commercially. Fred had a passion and a gift for music, being self-taught and playing music by ear he could pick up most any musical instrument and play it. The piano and guitar were his favorite. In the seventies and eighties Fred and his three children sang together at local churches and from this a gospel record album was requested and recorded. Most importantly, Fred had a great love for his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and he lives there with him today.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 8, 2014, at Cottrell-Gooch Funeral Home, 287 N. Main Street, in Rosedale, with the Rev. Randy McPike officiating. Burial will follow in Stevenson Family Cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Friends may sign an online guest register at:
