TERRE HAUTE —
Virginia Flossie Sankey, 87, of Riley, passed away at 4:40 a.m. Wednesday, July 24, 2013, in her residence. She was born June 18, 1926, in West Terre Haute, to George William “Wink” Collins and Pearl Shepherd Collins.
Together they operated their family farm in Riley for many years. She also had served as secretary for Ross during his time he served as the Riley Township trustee.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles “Ross” Sankey, whom she married on March 29, 1952.
Survivors include her son, Charles Ross “Rusty” Sankey Jr. of Riley; three sisters, Betty Arlena Bender, Joann Vandevier, and Erma Cooper; and many nieces and nephews. She also was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, William Paul Collins; and four sisters, Harriet Mary McCoy, Carol Eloise McDaniel, Marjorie Mae Richardson, and Opal Aldean.
She was a member of the Vigo County Farm Bureau Association.
Funeral services for Virginia will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 31, 2013, in Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, 220 N. 3rd St., in West Terre Haute, with the Rev. Randy Smith officiating. Burial will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and prior to services Wednesday.
