Alberta J. Butler, 88, of Rockville, passed away peacefully in her residence Tuesday, July 23, 2013. She was born March 9, 1925, in Parke County, the daughter of James E. Thomas and Gladys Coleman Thomas. Alberta was a member of Rockville United Methodist Church. She married Forrest Dean Butler on July 17, 1949, and he preceded her on March 28, 1989. She retired in 1992 after 40 years teaching career with Rockville Elementary School.
Alberta was very active in the community, Home Economics Club, Delta Kappa Gamma, Historical Society, Rockville Library Board, Retired Teachers of Parke and Vermillion Counties, Current Literature and Daughters of the American Revolution. Alberta enjoyed many hours research of genealogy for Parke County families.
She is survived by a son, Dan Butler and wife Patty of Rockville; daughter, Sue Butler of Carlsbad, Calif.; two granddaughters, Beth Price and husband David of Brownsburg, and Becky Butler of Indianapolis; great-grandchildren, Dylan Price and Alexis Price.
Funeral services will be Friday, July 26, 2013, at 11 a.m. in Butler Funeral Home, 218 N. College St., Rockville, with Pastor Dave Marty officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Family request memorial donations be made in Alberta’s memory to Rockville United Methodist Church or Parke County Food Pantry. Envelopes will be available in the funeral home during visitation.
