Marie L. Chlopecki

Marie L. Chlopecki, 68, of Morris, died Sunday, July 21, 2013, at University Hospital in Cincinnati. Born March 9, 1945, in Brookfield, Ill., she is the daughter of Sarah (nee: Bonte) and John Depasse Sr. She married John Chlopecki June 29, 1968, in Terre Haute.

Although a homemaker for much of her life, Marie also was an art teacher for the Vigo County School Corp. She was a member of St. Anthony’s Church in Morris and the St. Anthony’s Ladies Sodality.

A talented artist, Marie painted, carved, sculpted and worked with stained glass.  Other interests included cross stitching and quilting. Her family described her as a perfectionist. While she was one to compare labels of products, she would always buy the name brand. She wanted people to have the best, and her children were no exception. From clothes to Cabbage Patch Dolls for the girls to Star Wars toys for the boys and everything in between, she loved to shop. John used to tease her “That they would be the richest people in the poor house.” Although John did most of the cooking, for good reason according to the kids, she did make delicious Christmas cookies and stroganoff. Having a sweet tooth, she loved John’s Rice Crispy treats and was one of those fortunate individuals who didn’t have to worry about gaining weight. She collected all things Snoopy, had a wide variety of tastes in music and was a huge fan of the show “Law and Order.”

Marie is survived by her husband, John; daughters and sons-in-law, Jeannette and Jeff Toms of Spring Grove, Ill., and Cheryl and Greg Hall of Rolling Meadows, Ill.; sons and daughters-in-law, John (David) and Jen Chlopecki of Palatine, Ill., and Kevin and Christine Chlopecki of River Vale, N.J.; brothers, Clarence Depasse of Menasha, Wis., and Ron Depasse of Terre Haute; twin brother, Gerald Depasse of Plainfield; and 11 grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she also was preceded in death by brother, John Depasse Jr.; and sisters, Emily Depasse and Cheri Hubbard.

Visitation is Wednesday, July 24, 2013, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Weigel Funeral Home, in Batesville, with a rosary service at 4 p.m. Funeral services are 10 a.m. Thursday, July 25, 2013, at St. Anthony’s Church with the Rev. Pascal Nduka officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family requests memorials to the Monsignor Schmitz Memorial Improvement Fund.
