Louise Imogene Allison, 88, passed away Sunday, July 14, 2013, in her residence. She was born in Clark County, Ill., on Feb. 27, 1925, to Denzel Mitchell and Mamie Ellen Mumford Mitchell. She was a member of Maplewood Christian Church, where she was very involved with the Sonshine Center, enjoying cooking and hospitality for all that she served. She also enjoyed playing games, bowling and especially spending time with her family. She was a big basketball fan and particularly enjoyed anything related to Larry Bird. She worked many years as an executive secretary for Sun Oil Company formerly known as DX. She had also worked for the Kroger company and Andrews Company. She retired as the church secretary at Maplewood Christian Church in 1988.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas E. Allison, in August of 1987; a brother, Lee Mitchell; a sister, Shirley Smith; and a great-grandson, Kyle Allison.
She is survived by a daughter, Vickie Black and husband Tom of Joplin, Mo.; three sons, Randal Allison and wife Donna of DuQuion, Ill., Mark Allison, and Tim Allison and wife Pam, all of Terre Haute; one brother, Paul “Pete” Mitchell and wife Rosemary of Casey, Ill.; a sister, Virginia Ray and husband Dean of Los Cruces, N.M.; nine grandchildren, Jennifer Black, Teresa Cortez, Michael Black, Connie Foley, Shane Allison, Jeremy Combs, Amber Allison, Chad Allison and Erin Haggart; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, July 18, 2013, at Greiner Funeral Home, 2005 N. 13th St. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. today. Pastor Craig Wininger will be conducting services. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that contributions be made to the House of Hope, in Joplin, Mo., or the Sonshine Center in care of Maplewood Christian Church.
