Joan S. Brown, 87, passed away Tuesday, July 23, 2013, at her home. She was born Dec. 25, 1925, in Terre Haute, to Anthony and Opal Spugnardi. Joan graduated from Brazil High School in 1944 and worked as a bookkeeper for the Pepsi-Cola Bottling Company.
She was a lifetime member of Annunciation Catholic Church, served as treasurer for the Clay County Humane Society, and was a member of Delta Theta Tau Sorority.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Eugene Brown; brother, Joseph Spugnardi; grandson, Steven Kingery; and great-grandson, Justin Kingery.
Survivors include her daughters, Rebecca Pell and Karen (John) Kingery, all of Brazil; grandchildren, Jessica Pell of Brazil, Julia (Tony) Myles of Switz City, Jennie Pell of San Antonio, Fla., Kimberly (Randy) Bourff of Brazil, Suzanne (Tim) Hendrickson of Indianapolis, and Cynthia (Mike) Hoffa of Brownsburg; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; nieces and nephews, Angela (Mike) Clark and Anthony (Heidi) Spugnardi, all of Brazil, and Allan (Lisa) Spugnardi of Cloverdale; and several other extended family members.
A funeral mass will be held 11 a.m. Monday, July 29, 2013, at Annunciation Catholic Church in Brazil with the Rev. John Hallowell officiating and burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery in Terre Haute. The family will accept friends Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Moore Funeral Home, 142 N. Washington St., in Brazil.
