James Bruce Dodd

PARIS, ILL. — PARIS, Ill. — James Bruce Dodd, 70, of Paris, passed away at 8:08 p.m. Friday, May 3, 2013, at his residence, surrounded by his family. He was retired after 15 years as expediter of Rolls Royce Products at MECO/Doncaster of Paris and had previously worked for 20 years as assistant manager at Beaman Corporation and Lusterlite. He was born Oct. 5, 1942, in Paris, the son of the late Dorley and Hazel (Cox) Dodd Sr. He married Mary Jane Cunningham on Oct. 13, 1963, in Paris, and she survives.

Survivors also include two sons, Robert Bruce (Callie) Dodd of Mattoon, Ill., and Richard Travis Dodd of Paris; a brother, Dorley (Brenda) Dodd Jr. of Pontiac, Ill.; a brother-in-law, Dick (Karan) Cunningham of Paris; a sister-in-law, Ruth Cunningham of Paris; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews; and several former foster daughters. He was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Bill Cunningham.

Mr. Dodd was a devoted member of Paris Christian Church, where he served as song leader. He was a past president of Paris Lions Club and past president of Paris Junior League Basketball. Affectionately known to many as “Mr. Tupperware,” he assisted his wife in her business for many years. He loved traveling and took numerous trips to his favorite destination of Gatlinburg, Tenn. He also enjoyed the Edgar County Fair, camping at Casey KOA, and NASCAR racing in which he was a loyal Jimmie Johnson fan. He will be remembered as a people person who never met a stranger, always had a “word for the wise,” and took pride in his ability to recommend a good restaurant in any given city.

Services celebrating his life will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 8, 2013, at Templeton Funeral Home, in Paris, with the Rev. Tom Armour officiating. Burial will follow in Edgar Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the funeral home. For those who wish, the family suggests that memorials be made to Paris Christian Church.
