Betty E. Smith Cheesman, 83, of Terre Haute died Saturday, April 27, 2013, in Royal Oaks Health Care and Rehabilitation Center. She had been a cashier for A&P Grocery Store. She was born November 11, 1929, in Coalmont, Indiana, to Charles Raymond Smith and Bess Hemphill Smith.
Survivors include her daughter, Darla Smith of Terre Haute; her beloved dog Abbey; and many stepchildren and stepgrandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband of 33 years, Russell E. Cheesman, Sr., in 2003.
She was a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church and with her husband, Russell, was a group home parent with Gibault Home for Boys. Other memberships include Beta Sigma Alpha Sorority, American Legion Post 104, FOP Lodge #85 and the Marine Corps League.
Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Thursday May 2, 2013, in Saint Benedict Catholic Church, 111 South 9th Street, with Father Edmund Goldbach OFM. Conv. officiating. Entomb-ment will follow in Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum. Visi-tation is scheduled prior to services from 10 a.m. to 12 noon today, May 2, 2013, in the Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street.
