WEST TERRE HAUTE —
Anna Catherine Steppe Tidd, 91, of West Terre Haute, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, May 1, 2013. She was born Oct. 29, 1921, in Vigo County, to Joseph and Mary Steppe. She married Ernest Tidd on Jan. 30, 1943. They were married for 61 years and he preceded her in death on June 8, 2004.
After graduation from Concannon High School, she worked in the providence kitchen at St. Mary-of-the-Woods. She was a loving wife and homemaker and raised eight children.
Survivors include her children, John Tidd and his wife Sandy and Mary Ann Day and her husband Jerry, all of Crawfordsville, Jerry Tidd and his wife Mary of Bloomington, Ind., Janet Roth and her husband Gary, Paul Tidd and his wife Sheryl, Robert Tidd and his wife Donna, and Julia Ellis and her husband Gary, all of West Terre Haute, and Peggy Lubbehusen and her husband Mark of Terre Haute; 16 grandchildren, Terry Roth, Dennis Roth, Shannon Scott, Emily Saidian, Ryan Tidd, David Tidd, Cody Tidd, Ethan Tidd, Kyle Tidd, Sara Tidd, Joel Day, Lauren Day, Landon Ellis, Josie Ellis, Maggie Lubbehusen, and Mason Lubbehusen; 12 great-grandchildren, Mackenzie, Lindsay, and Morgan Roth, Cameron, Kendall, and Clayton Scott, Alec and Gabriella Saidian, Marshall, Maddox, and Major Tidd, and Addison Day; two sisters, Bertha Egan and Lena Bird; a brother, Herman Steppe; and a sister-in-law, Catherine Steppe. She also was preceded in death by three sisters, Mary Steppe, Josephine Baldwin, and Edna Unger; and three brothers, Joe Steppe, John Steppe, and Tom Steppe.
Anna loved her flowers and birds. She found great happiness in her family, her home, and her yard. She always had a positive outlook on life and was an inspiration to all around her. She was a member of St. Leonard’s Catholic Church in West Terre Haute and most recently a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church in Terre Haute.
Mass of Christian burial will be 12 noon Saturday, May 4, 2013, in St. Benedict Catholic Church with Father Edmund Goldbach officiating. Burial will be in Bethesda Memorial Park. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Friday in Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, 220 N. 3rd St., West Terre Haute, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Friends are welcome to join the family at the funeral home Saturday morning for a prayer service at 11:15 a.m. and procession to the church. If friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made to St. Benedict's soup kitchen with envelopes available in the funeral home.
