Lawrence John Bruno ‘Larry’


TERRE HAUTE —  He was born on Sept. 7, 1923, to Anthony Bruno and Mary (Cali) Bruno.

Larry served in the United States Marine Corps. He was at Iwo Jima when they raised the American flag. He was a member of St. Benedict Parish. He owned and operated Tony Shoe Service for 50 years. Larry was an avid bowler, who held many city records, including high series for 25 years. He was also very active in the Marine Corps League and a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents; brother, John Bruno; and nephew, John Drake. He is survived by his sister, Mary Strange; nephews, Tony Drake, wife Carrol, Larry Drake, wife Pam, Paul Drake, and his wife Nancy; niece, Bobbie Cordell, and her husband, Gary; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

Mass of Christian burial is scheduled for 12:05 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013, at St. Benedict Parish, 111 S. Ninth St. Father Ed Goldbach will be officiating. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery, in Clinton, with military honors. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until noon on Saturday at the church.
