Margaret McLaughlin

TERRE HAUTE — Margaret McLaughlin, 87, formerly of Evansville, passed away on April 9, 2014, in the Hospice Unit of Union Hospital in Terre Haute. Margaret was born April 11, 1926, to the late Alfred and Emma (Bernhardt) Mangold in Evansville.

Margaret was active her whole life. She was very involved and supportive of the United Church of Christ, as well as the PTA. She also volunteered at Deaconess Hospital. She was a reading specialist at Delaware school, where she loved helping the children. She and her husband of 55 years, Howard, who died in 2003, loved to travel.

She was preceded in death by three sisters, Louise Paris, Emma Mangold and Dorothy McLaughlin.  She is survived by her son, David (Colleen) McLaughlin of Newburgh; daughters, Patti (Mike) Dason of Terre Haute, and Joyce (Bob) Lathrop of Fort Myers, Fla.; and sister, Ruth Schneider of Evansville. Also surviving are grandchildren, Shanna (Chris) McPherson, Matthew (Ashley) Lathrop, Molly (Peter) McLaughlin-Schapker, Captain Nicholas (Alyssa) Dason, Jessica (Ash) Lathrop-Hopkins, Sergeant Teddy Dason, John McLaughlin, and Sarah Lathrop; and three great-grandchildren, Max and Mason McPherson and Shaden Lathrop.  

A memorial service will be at Zion United Church of Christ, 415 NW Fifth St., in Evansville, on Saturday, April 12, 2014, at 11 a.m. Visitation will be from 10 am until service. Pastor John Trnka will be officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Indiana-Kentucky conference of the United Church of Christ, 1100 W 42nd St., 350, Indianapolis, IN 46208. Habitat of Evansville, 1401 N. Fares Avenue, Evansville, IN  47711 or Darling National Wildlife Refuge, 1 Wildlife Drive, Sanibel, FL 33957.
