Carolyn Joan Krockenberger

TERRE HAUTE — Carolyn Joan Krockenberger, 71, of Terre Haute, went to be with the Lord at 5:12 p.m. Sunday, June 16, 2013, at Union Hospital. She was born Dec. 26, 1941, in Terre Haute, to Richard M. Oard and B. Virginia Valentine Oard. She was blessed with the culinary, crafting and sewing skills of her mother and the perfectionism and stubbornness of her dad. She graduated from Wiley High School in 1960, and Smart Appearance Beauty College in 1962. Following graduation, she worked as a  beautician for more than 25 years in Alden’s Beauty Salon, several shops of her own, and was an instructor at Harrold’s Beauty Academy.

On May 21, 1965, Carolyn married Edwin Krockenberger, and together they had and raised three sons who became the center of her life. In 1990 she became owner/operator of Carolyn’s House of Ceramics, where she and her husband manufactured and sold ceramics and supplies, as well as instructed classes for students of all ages.

Carolyn was the current president of the Maryland Homemakers Extension Club and has been a member for many years. She also was a member of First Baptist Church and later Maryland Community Church, Maryland Missionary Society, Bunco Club, Canasta Club, and for years had been an active member of the Terre Haute Kennel Club, where she assisted with dog shows, obedience classes and served in the position of secretary. She also was past secretary for the Southern Indiana Racing Association. She enjoyed reading, flower gardening, cooking, baking, crocheting, sewing, NASCAR and Indianapolis Colts football. She loved Christmas, especially decorating her Christmas trees and giving the holiday cookies she baked. She had many entries in the Vigo County Fair for foods, sewing and ceramics. Most of all she enjoyed traveling and watching her three sons and grandchildren race both go-carts and sprint cars.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents; brother-in-law, Charles “Chick” Tucker, sisters-in-law, Bonnie and Marge Krockenberger; and daughter-in-law, Jennifer Krockenberger.

She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Ed; three sons, Daren (and Laura), Eric (and Karen), all of Terre Haute, and Shawn (and Leslie) of West Terre Haute; sisters Millie Tucker and Susan Oard; eight grandchildren, Katie, Kyle, Cari, Kristen, Hanna and Colin Krockenberger; Megan (and Tim) Meany, Shae Orr; great-grandchildren, Colton and Layla Kearschner, and Mackenzie Meany; brother-in-law, Don Krockenberger, sister-in-law, Karen LaChaga; nephews and niece, Rich Tucker, Jeff LaChaga, Adam, Jason, and Sarah Krockenberger; and most of all her beloved Doberman, Leah.

Funeral services for Carolyn will be 10 a.m. Friday, in Central Christian Church, 4950 E. Wabash Ave., with the Rev. Phil Ewoldsen officiating. Entombment will be in the Chapel of Memories in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, in the church, and also one hour prior to services Friday in the church. The family kindly suggests that in lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made to: Jennifer Krockenberger’s Autism Support Fund which can be mailed or dropped of at any First Financial Bank location, or with envelopes available in the church. All proceeds go to the Davis Park Elementary School special needs playground project. The family would like to give a special thank you to the Union Hospital nursing staff on 2 east C and 4 east C for their wonderful care. A special thank you to ICU and Dr. Gera, Dr. Dultz, and Dr. Lenardo. Fitzpatrick Funeral Home assisted with arrangements.
