Norma Jane (Thompson) McHargue

BRAZIL — BRAZIL — Norma Jane (Thompson) McHargue, 86, of Avon, and formerly of Brazil, joined her beloved husband, Charlie, in heaven at 7:45 a.m. Dec. 18, 2013, at St. Vincent Hospital, in Indianapolis, with her son Chuck by her side. Born Sept. 8, 1927, in Mishawaka, Ind., she was the daughter of Arthur R. Thompson and Hila (Gum) Thompson. Her husband, Charles A. “Charlie” McHargue, whom she married June 16, 1951, preceded her in death, July 4, 2004. Norma was a member of the 1945 graduating class of Bridgeton High School.

Her life was focused on her family and friends. She especially loved playing with children and enjoyed being with her great-grandson, Landon Buher, whom she saw almost daily since moving to Avon earlier this year. She worked for Clay Community Schools as a cook for over 25 years and was always happy to see former students of the Staunton schools where she had served. She enjoyed working word puzzles and crocheting making many blankets for newborns of family and friends. She also loved watching the Indiana Pacers. Norma was a member of Berea Christian Church and more recently had attended East Side Christian Church.

In addition to her parents and husband, Norma was preceded in death by her sister, Katherine Imogene Harms; and two brothers-in-law, Otto R. Harms and Jack E. McHargue.

She is survived by her son, Charles (Linda) McHargue; a nephew, Ron (Linda) Harms; granddaughters, Maggie (friend Matt Stewart) McHargue, Martina (Zac) Buher; one great-grandson, Landon Buher; as well as many nieces, nephews, friends, and extended family.

Norma was very grateful to family and friends who ran errands and assisted with her transportation prior to leaving the Brazil area earlier this year.

Visitation will be at Lawson-Miller Chapel, 1702 E. National Ave., in Brazil, from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 22, 2013, and from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 23, 2013.  Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 23, 2013, with Pastor Bill Brock officiating. Burial will follow at Bee Ridge Cemetery. Donations may be made to the American Heart Association or National Kidney Foundation in her memory. Visit to light a candle in her memory.
