CLINTON — James H. “Dugan” Phillips, 91, passed away Saturday, April 20, 2013, at Union Hospital in Terre Haute. He was born on July 30, 1921, in Dora, Ala. Dugan worked as a boiler engineer for J.I. Case, the Green Valley Coal Mine, as well as doing commercial painting.
He was a member of the Jerusalem Masonic Lodge, Terre Haute Shrine Association, The Family Worship Center, as well as being the longest running member of the Union Hospital Cardiac Rehabilitation Unit. Dugan enjoyed NASCAR, fishing, and hunting.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and LouAnna Phillips. Survivors include his wife, Imogene Brock Phillips of Clinton; son, Ron (Lisa) Phillips of Clinton; daughter, Fonda Sue (Tony) Engle of Frederick, Md.; brother, L.B. Leighton of Dora; sister, Hazel Morgan of Danville, Ill.; grandchildren, Andrew (Morgan) Engle, Erica (Kevin) Engle Kelley, Nicole (Ray) Phillips Griffin, Ashley Phillips Mathis, and Jacob Levi Phillips; great-grandchildren, Aiden Mathis, Samuel Kelley, Jillian Kelley, William James Engle, and Ava Grace Engle; hunting buddy/friend and caretaker, Tena Drake; and nephew and caretaker, David Hayes.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 25, 2013, at Frist Funeral Home, 458 Blackman St., in Clinton, with the Rev. Simeon Young officiating and burial to follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Terre Haute. The family will accept friends on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
