WEST TERRE HAUTE — Terry Wayne Higginbotham, 64, of West Terre Haute, passed away Monday, Feb. 3, 2014, in his residence. He was retired and had worked as a truck driver for Doxsee Foods in Terre Haute for many years. In his younger years he had worked for the Blue Ribbon Coal Company in West Terre Haute. He had most recently been operating a lawn care business, as well as being a mechanic. He was born Aug. 4, 1949, in Terre Haute, to Virgil “Ray” Higginbotham and Mary “Waunita” Gulley Higginbotham.
Survivors include three daughters, Candy S. Higginbotham and her companion Joe LaBree of Terre Haute, Lisa VanGilder and her husband Jerry of West Terre Haute, and Shonnie VanGilder and her companion Lance Jones of Terre Haute; six grandchildren, Tyson Wayne LaBree; Kevin, Heather and Julie Donovan; and Sarah and Josh VanGilder; five great-grandchildren, Aden James Jones, Jaelynn Jones, Hanna Donovan, Christian Donovan and Raelynn Donovan; six brothers, including a special brother, Ed Higginbotham; and Jerry, Ken, Tom, Albert and Joe Higginbotham; a sister, Geneva Boles; his former wife and friend, Thelma Smith of West Terre Haute; and many, many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Gary Lee Wilguess; a brother, Jim Ray Higginbotham; and a sister, Kathy Hefler.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and had served during the Vietnam era. He was a member of the American Legion Post 501 and the Young Mens Club in West Terre Haute.
According to his wishes, cremation has been scheduled, with a celebration of life service to be scheduled at a later date. Fitzpatrick Funeral Home assisted with arrangements.
