William A. Thomas Jr.


BRAZIL — William A. “Bill” Thomas Jr., 76, departed this life peacefully with his loving family by his side, and entered into eternal life with the Lord on April 27, 2014. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, William A. Thomas Sr. and Dorothy Thomas; and sister, Ramona Hulett.

He is survived by Louise Thomas, his wife of 41 years; son, Russell Underwood (Donna); daughters, Sandra Ferguson (Greg), and Lisa D’Amato (Dan); brothers, Jack Thomas (Shirley), and Robert Thomas (Jodi); sisters, Dorothy Sears (Richard), and Virginia Elliott; grandchildren, Alex, Jessica, Hailey and Thomas Underwood, Stephanie Toole, Cori Ferguson, Daniel and Aaron D’Amato; great-grandson, Kaleb Toole; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; and many other family and friends.

Bill was born in Indiana and proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps, E Battery, 2dBn (Rein) FMF, before moving to Virginia in the early 1970’s to work at Luck Stone Corp. He began his career as a quarry manager and retired 26 years later as Division V.P.

Bill was a member of the Free and Accepted Masons, Indiana York Rite, Scottish Rite of Richmond, and the Shriners of Richmond. He was an avid hunter who looked forward to autumn weekends in the woods with his hunt club, and his many interests included traveling, especially on his Canada vacations, “RVing,” golfing, NASCAR, and spending time with his grandchildren.

The family will receive friends today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Bennett Funeral Home, 11020 W. Broad St., Glen Allen, VA 23060. Funeral service will be April 30, 2014, at 12:30 p.m. Masonic ceremony, and 1 p.m. traditional service, with interment immediately following at Greenwood Memorial Gardens, 12609 Patterson Ave., Richmond, VA 23238.
