Mary Dean Cole was born to Lucille Hammond and Charlie Cox, on May 11, 1928, in Vincennes. She was raised as the daughter of Clarence Lindsey Wood upon the marriage union of her mother Lucille and Clarence Wood from a young age. On Tuesday, June 11, 2013, at 5:05 p.m. she gently transitioned into the afterlife.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Cole; her parents; and sisters, Iris Walden and Linda Foster.
Aunt Deanie, as she was called by her many nieces and nephews, had a light sense of humor, enjoyed playing girl's softball and socializing with her friends. She would always share a meal, a sweet treat or refreshment with those who came around. Although she had no children of her own, she mothered her many beloved canine pets throughout the years.
Mary Dean was a dedicated worker serving Dr. James Conklin and his family for years. She then went on to work as a cook at Rose Hulman Institute of Technology until her retirement in 1973.
Mary Dean leaves to cherish her fondly, brother, Clarence Herman Wood (Janet Wood); sister, Sandra Person of Los Angeles; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 18, 2013, at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church. Calling will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the church. Interment is in Grandview Cemetery. Russell Funeral Home assisted with arrangements.
