Elvan H. Dunbar Jr., 87, of Terre Haute, passed away on Friday, June 14, 2013, at Davis Gardens Health Center. He was born on Nov. 2, 1925, in Indianapolis, to Elvan H. Dunbar Sr. and Susie (King) Dunbar. He married Evelyn Campbell and they were married for over 50 years before she preceded him in death.
Elvan proudly served in the United States Navy. He retired from Pfizer in 1988 as an instrument tech. Elvan enjoyed fishing and watching golf in his spare time. He thrived at Westminister Village and was always socializing with his friends and neighbors.
Elvan is survived by his grandson, David Dunbar and granddaughter, Kristi Abolt, both of Terre Haute; great-grandchildren, Zachariah Dunbar, Mika Abolt and Tyler Roberts; great-great-grandson, Camron Foster; a brother, John Dunbar of Arizona; a daughter-in-law, Sherry Dunbar of Terre Haute; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Evelyn; sons, Gene Dunbar and Ron Dunbar; and a brother, William Dunbar.
Elvan’s family wishes to extend special thanks to the caring staff on the fifth floor of Westminister Village for the love and joy they brought to Elvan’s life during his stay.
In accordance to Elvan’s wishes, cremation was chosen with no services. Elvan will be entombed next to his wife in Roselawn Memorial Park’s Chapel of Memories. Roselawn Funeral Home was entrusted with the arrangements. Online condolences may be made at:
