Shawna Rose Gardner

CASEY, Ill. — Shawna Rose Gardner, 39, of Casey, Ill., passed away at 1:47 a.m. on Tuesday, May 7, 2013 at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis.

She was born on Dec. 29, 1973 in Paris, Ill. On Aug. 5, 1995, she married her “high school sweetheart” Chris Gardner in Casey, Ill.

Shawna was a 1992 graduate of Casey High School. She received a softball scholarship to Lake Land College. She later completed her teaching degree from Eastern Illinois University. Shawna was a substitute teacher for Casey Westfield and Martinsville schools. She later taught at the Casey Westfield Jr. and Sr. High Schools.

For Shawna, her girls and family were her life. Her softball talent passed on to her daughters and is evident in their dedication to the sport. Shawna enjoyed coaching and playing softball; she especially enjoyed attending her daughter’s softball games and spending time with her coveted pups, Bo and Belle. Shawna enjoyed scrapbooking, was an avid reader and enjoyed “planning the annual family trip to Disney World.”

Survivors include her husband; daughters, Elleigh Gabrielle and Libbie Aleen Gardner, both of Casey; parents, Darlena and Richard Reynolds of Casey; her biological father, Fred Carver of Casey; grandmother, Martha Reynolds; sisters, Rebecca (Scott) Carver and Cherie Thompson; stepbrother, Wilson Reynolds; stepsister, Leslie (Matt) Phillips and several nieces and nephews.

Public visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. on Friday at Markwell Funeral Home, 200 N. Central Ave., Casey. The funeral service and burial will be private.

Memorial donations and contributions may be made to the Clark County Relay for Life, c/o American Cancer Society, 2509 S. Neil St., Champaign, IL 61820. Markwell Funeral Home of Casey is in charge of the arrangements. To view the full obituary, send a condolence message, light a candle or post photos, visit:
