Norma Jean (Hix) Ricketts


BLACKHAWK — Norma Jean (Hix) Ricketts, 86, of Blackhawk, passed away at 8:15 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 25, 2013, in her residence. She was born on March 7, 1927, in Terre Haute, to Ocie Hix and Vern (Cleghorn) Hix. She was a graduate of Blackhawk High School. In 1946, she married Luther Beryl Ricketts with whom she spent many years. She worked in the press room at CBS Records for 23 years. She was then a cook and baker for places such as Rose-Hulman Sigma Nu Fraternity, Deli-on-the-Green, and Westminster Village. In her retirement she worked at Arby’s until she was nearing 80.

Survivors include her three sons, Ronald of Blackhawk, Gary (Chris) of Terre Haute, and Mike of Bedford; daughter, Pamela Sue Pence of Blackhawk; eight grandchildren, Tracee Hines, Sara Vitaniemi, Marcy Perry, Scott Ricketts, Jennifer Bowden, Brittany Johnson, Quinn Ricketts, and Townes Ricketts; also many stepgrandchildren, great-grandchildren, and stepgreat-grandchildren.

Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 29, 2013, at 11 a.m. in DeBaun Funeral Homes Springhill Chapel, 85 E. Springhill Drive. Pastor Larry Ricketts will be officiating. Burial will be in Farmersburg Westlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2013, from 4 until 8 p.m. and Thursday morning from 10 a.m. until service time. The family suggests memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of the Wabash Valley. Pallbearers will be Scott Ricketts, Quinn Ricketts, Matthew Czarnki, Troy Cesinger, Austin Hines, and Aaron Hines.  Online condolences can be made at:
