Russell Eugene Floyd, 66, of Terre Haute, passed away at 2:25 p.m. March 2, 2013. He was born Oct. 29, 1946, to Eugene Floyd and Mary (Montgom-ery) Floyd. Russell retired after 30 years of service with the Indiana State University Police Department, as a captain, where he received the University Medallion and was decorated for his service on numerous occasions. He served as adjunct instructor at the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy. He was a graduate of Wiley High School, attended Indiana State University and was a graduate of the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy. Russell was a sergeant and U.S. Army veteran during the Vietnam era. He was a member of Krietenstein Post 104 American Legion, Kiwanis Club, Boy Scouts of America, where he received the Silver Beaver Award, a past chairman of Wabash Valley District, and a board member of the Crossroad Council America Board. He was a past vice president of Fraternal Order of Police.
Russell is survived by his daughter, Lynn Floyd (Greg Jones) of Terre Haute; son, Jason Floyd (Kelvin Kwok), of Indianapolis; grandson, Samuel Russell Jones; and sister, Regena Lafollette of Plainfield. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife of 30 years, Gay Nell (Seybold) Floyd; brother, Charlie Floyd; and daughter, Karen Floyd.
Funeral services have been scheduled for Thursday, March 7, 2013, at 11 a.m., in DeBaun Springhill Chapel, 85 E. Springhill Drive. The Rev. Larry Spear will be officiating. Burial will be in Durham Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 4 to 8 p.m. today, and on Thursday from 10 a.m. until service time.
