Martha Montgomery Love

BRAZIL — Martha Montgomery Love, 91, peacefully left her home and went to Heaven to be with her husband, James Everly Love, at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 9, 2013. Martha was born on July 26, 1922, to Charles Edward and Mary Jane Kaster Montgomery, in Shelby County, Ind. She graduated from Fairland High School in 1941. During World War II, she worked at Camp Atterbury in Edinburgh, and later worked at the Veterans Administration in Indianapolis.

On June 16, 1950, Martha married James, and in 1952, they had a daughter, Janet, who married Samuel J. Trout on Dec. 21, 1977. Janet loved her mother and father so very much because they were the best parents in the world and she devoted her life to them as they did to her. Jim and Martha celebrated 57 years of a beautiful marriage filled with love, devotion, and understanding before Jim went to Heaven on Oct. 2, 2007. Jim and Martha lived a good, quiet, and peaceful life filled with love, gratitude, and respect for each another.

Martha was a thoughtful, caring, and giving wife, mother, mother-in-law, and homemaker who loved life. She devoted her life to her husband and daughter and later also to her son-in-law. Martha always put her family first. She loved animals and nature and especially enjoyed being outside to appreciate and work in the midst of nature’s beauty. She received great joy in finding something simple, good, and fun in each day and sharing her joy with others. Her spunk and mischief in life brought smiles and laughter to those upon her path. Martha’s gentle caring and loving ways brightened the journey of many as she quietly and humbly did many good deeds to help others.

At 61 years of age Martha enrolled in the Women’s External Degree (WED) program at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College and at the age of 65 graduated cum laude with the class of 1988 with a bachelor of science degree in history. Martha’s family and friends admired and respected her greatly for this outstanding accomplishment.

Martha was a member of First Presbyterian Church. She was a charter member of the Alpha Omega Chapter of Tri Kappa in Brazil.

Martha was an enthusiastic fan of sports and politics as she knew and remembered great details of the people and lives she read about throughout the years. Her intelligence, sharp memory, and wit allowed her to easily converse with those of all ages and interests on a wide variety of topics with enthusiasm and humor. Martha was very patriotic and proudly wore the red, white, and blue to remind and share with others not only her respect for the United States of America, but also her gratitude and reverence for the veterans who sacrificed and the military serving and protecting our freedoms. She always took great pride in flying our American flag at home.

Martha was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, John. She is survived by her daughter, Janet and son-in-law Sam of Brazil; and sisters, Mildred Elizabeth Montgomery (Indianapolis) and Laura Ann Lyons (Shelbyville). Also surviving are sisters-in-law, Margaret Simonson and Mildred Chaney of Brazil; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Private family services will be held at Moore Funeral Home, in Brazil, with Bob Kumpf officiating. Burial will follow in Clearview Cemetery, west of Brazil.
