Betty L. Shonk

MARSHALL, Ill. — Betty L. Shonk, 93, of Marshall, passed away 12:40 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2013, at Union Hospital, in Terre Haute, Ind. She was born Nov. 13, 1919, in Charleston, the daughter of Orville Henry and Ida Mae Kaiser Henry. She married John F. Shonk on Feb. 20, 1938, in Clark County, and he preceded her in death on Aug. 26, 2008.

Surviving are her children, Judy (Paul) Joab of Marshall, John Thomas “Tom” (Shari) Shonk of Manchester, Mo., Mike (Kari) Shonk of Monticello, Tim (Patty) Shonk of Charleston, and Cindy Pancake of Marshall; 15 grandchildren, Michelle Shumaker, Melinda Jewell, Allen Shonk, Trisha Shonk, Shannon Duncan, Eric Shonk, Chad Shonk, Courtney Shonk, Michelle Harvey, Christina Shonk, Jennifer Shonk, Matthew Shonk, Lucas Grabbe, Nicholas Grabbe and Cody Pancake; 19 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Pearl Blagg and Ruth Conlon; and two brothers, Bud Henry and Walter Henry.

She was a member of the First Christian Church of Marshall, where she had taught Sunday school for several years. She was a member and past president of the Marshall Women’s Club, the K of P Auxiliary. She enjoyed bowling with friends, was an excellent cook and always enjoyed entertaining her family during the holidays.  

Services in honor of her life will be 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Pearce Funeral Home, with Brother John Cutshall officiating. Burial will be in Marshall Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday and one hour prior to services on Sunday at the funeral home.
