Byron Allen Stockwell, 78, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2013, at his home near Bowling Green. He was born Sept. 12, 1934, the only child of Byron W. and Norma (Stewart) Stockwell. He was a 1952 graduate of Quincy High School. He retired in 1997 as operations manager for the Indianapolis Sherwin-Williams commercial and industrial paint facility and moved to Owen County, where he and his wife owned and operated Beamer Produce from 1993 to 1999. Byron was a member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Plainfield; and since moving to Owen County, was a member of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Terre Haute. He was a 40-year member of the Plainfield Fraternal Order of Eagles, a dedicated member of the Plainfield Jaycees, a Junior Chamber International Senator, and was instrumental in forming the Plainfield Junior Miss Scholarship program. After moving to Bowling Green, he was active in the Owen County Republican Party and served a term as an Owen County Commissioner.
Mr. Stockwell was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife of 58 years, Margaret (Hendershot) Stockwell. He is survived by a sister-in-law, Mary Jo Hendershot and husband Marcus Creech of Bowling Green; and a cousin, Barbara Petro of Ellettsville.
A memorial service will be 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, 2013, at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, 215 N. 7th St., in Terre Haute. The Rev. Mary Slenski will officiate. Burial will follow at Mabley Garden. Friends may call from 3 p.m. until the time of the service on Saturday, at the church. Arrangements are with West & Parrish & Pedigo Funeral Home.
