Carmen Lucas Esral


TERRE HAUTE — Carmen Lucas Esral, 97, passed away Sunday, Sept. 1, 2013, at Meadows Manor North. She was born in Nevins Township on June 24, 1916, to Louis and Belva Wood Lucas. Carmen was a graduate of Fontanet High School in 1933, and from Terre Haute Business College in 1937. She served more than 32 years in the United States Government.

Carmen is survived by two nieces, Shirley Altman of Rosedale, and Mary Ann Lucas of Woodinville, Wash.; and three nephews, Carl Lucas of Bourbon, Wayne Lucas of Terre Haute, and Robert Lucas of Fort Myers, Fla.

 She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leo Esral; a sister, Hazel; and brothers, Willis, Lawrence, Merl, and Myron Lucas.

 Carmen was a member of  The Northwest Church of Christ.

 Services will be 12 noon Friday at Mattox-Wood Funeral Home, with the visitation Friday from 10 a.m. until 12 noon. Officiating will be the Rev. David W. Grubb and Chaplain Stacy Sikes. Entombment will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The House of Compassion, 840 W. Center St. Rochester, MN 55902, sponsored by the Church of Christ to provide housing without cost to low income families who come to the Mayo Clinic for treatment.
