BRAZIL — Ted Elwell, 87, passed away Sunday, Sept. 1, 2013, at Union Hospital, in Terre Haute. He was born in Clay County on Oct. 28, 1925, to Clifford and Nelle Elwell. Ted served his country in the U.S. Army, and worked as a metal finisher for General Motors.
He attended Epworth Church, and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. Ted enjoyed working on cars, racing go-karts, hunting, fishing and visiting with people. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Rex and Bill Elwell; and sister, Patty Ward.
Survivors include his wife, Peggy Elwell; sons, Gary (Karen Cunningham) Elwell of Brazil, Michael (Kathy) Pierce of South Bend, and Joseph (Angie) Pierce of Brazil; daughters, Connie (Mark) Adamson of Brazil, Penny (Rod) Harbaugh of Bradenton, Fla., and Polly Anna Pierce of Brazil; grandchildren, Travis Douglas, Danielle Douglas Blakely, and Casey Clark; several great-grandchildren; and other extended family members.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Moore Funeral Home. The family will accept friends from 11 a.m. until the time of services on Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to your charity of choice. Online condolences may be expressed at:
