TERRE HAUTE —
Joanie Patrice Cox Johnson, 44, of West Terre Haute, passed away at 10:11 p.m. Sunday, March 31, 2013, in Union Hospital’s emergency room. She was born Jan. 14, 1969, in Terre Haute, to Louise Cox Sr. and Adosha (Bunch) Cox.
Survivors include her husband, James Johnson Jr., whom she married May 3, 1991, in West Terre Haute; a son, Dustin Flowers of West Terre Haute; two stepdaughters, Bridgette Johnson and Crystal Johnson, both of Hymera; five brothers, Louis Cox (Ann), Mike Cox (Becky), and Tony Cox, all of Terre Haute, Jim Cox (Sharon) of Greenfield, and Rick Cox (Mary) of West Terre Haute; four sisters, Carla Switzer (Hank) of Clinton, Sue Cates (Edd) of Evansville, Peggy Hammond (Walter), and Dolly Stevens (Frank), all of West Terre Haute; four grandchildren, Adyn, Logan, Savannah, Sophia, and David; many nieces and nephews including two special nephews whom she considered like sons, James Simmons (Koleen) of Rockville, and Kyle Clark of West Terre Haute.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, James “Jimmy” Johnson III; a brother, Homer Cox; and a nephew, Michael Cox.
Funeral services for Joanie will be 1 p.m. Friday in Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, 220 N. 3rd St., West Terre Haute, with the Rev. Buddy White officiating. Burial will be in Bethesda Memorial Park. Visitation will be 11 a.m. until service time Friday. The family kindly suggests that if friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Joanie Johnson Memorial Fund, with envelopes available in the funeral home.
