TERRE HAUTE —
James “Jim” Kenneth Helms, 65, of Terre Haute, passed away Thursday, Oct. 3, 2013, in his residence. Jim was born April 23, 1948, in Columbus, Ind., to Willis and Gloria Miller Helms. Jim was a business owner all of his life and was a very active member of the community. He belonged to several different groups, including; Silent Men, Sons of the American Legion, a member of the Masonic Lodge and also was one of the charter members of the Wabash Valley Harley Owner's Group. Riding motorcycles was a mainstay in Jim's life. He had ventured to the four corners of the United States seven times in his lifetime. Jim had also been previously appointed as a reserve deputy with the Vigo County Sheriff’s Department.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Bernie Miller. Jim is survived by his wife, Roma Helms; and two sons, Michael Helms of Indianapolis, and Jacob Helms and his wife Diana of Arlington, Va., who are expecting Jim's first grandchild in November. He also is survived by his brothers, Dennis Helms of Indianapolis and Thomas Helms of Terre Haute; as well as one sister, Susan Miller and her husband Richard of Indianapolis.
As were Jim's wishes, cremation has been chosen. Greiner Funeral Home, 2005 North 13th Street, Terre Haute, was entrusted with arrangements. Online condolences may be made at:
