Benjamin “Benny” W. Serkosky, 58, of Terre Haute, passed away as a result of a tragic accident Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2013, at I.U. Methodist Medical Center. Benjamin was born in Terre Haute, the son of the late Stanley and Anne A. (Hajdu) Serkosky. Mr. Serkosky graduated from North High School and attended Ivy Tech earning a degree in accounting. He formerly worked at Columbia House before relocating to Florida to enjoy the tropical weather and the laid back lifestyle. After retiring, Benjamin returned to Terre Haute reversing a long term trend of people retiring to Florida. But that was Benny.
He had an engaging personality and could spin a yarn with the best of them. In his younger years he enjoyed disco dancing which was made for him. He never lacked for a dance partner. Later in life Ben became a karaoke entertainer of some repute. He loved having fun whatever form it took. Benny made friends wherever he went. Cooking also was a passion and he became quite good at it. His housemate and brother, Tony will testify to that.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Carl L. Serkosky. Survivors include siblings, Anthony J. Serkosky (his best friend, confident, and partner in mischief) of Terre Haute, Stanley “Mickey” (Judith) Serkosky of Madison, Wis., Patricia L Wells and her companion Ted Moore of Terre Haute (also at times partners in mischief), daughter, Erin Chambers of Crawfordsville; and his loyal dog, “Hoss”, who misses him dearly.
A private celebration of life will be held at a later date. Interment will take place at Calvary Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Simple Cremations and Burials. Please join Benjamin’s family in sharing memories on his tribute wall at:
