Larry Rowley Sr.


Larry Rowley Sr., 65, of West Terre Haute, passed away at 8:40 p.m. Tuesday, June 21, 2011, in his residence after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was owner of L & R Construction Company for many years. He was born April 15, 1945, in West Terre Haute, to Don Robert Couch and Betty Rose Couch.

Survivors include his companion, Darlene Rowley; his mother, Betty Rose Phipps; his children, Rob Rowley and his wife Bambi, Larry Rowley Jr. and his wife Tracy, Lori Rowley Dispennett and her husband David, Bill, Tammy and Dave Rowley; stepchildren, Harold and Debra Eversole, Carl Eversole, Mark and Jamie Eversole, Angela Clark, and Vernon Eversole; 20 grandchildren; 10 stepgrandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 11 stepgreat-grandchildren; four sisters, Brenda Wycoff, Faye Sharp and her husband Frank, Connie Padgett and her husband Elvis, and Debbie Lowe and her husband Phil; three brothers, Robert Couch, Gary Couch and his wife Deb, and Herb Phipps; a brother-in-law, Jack Ivey; sister-in-law, Ruby Phipps; an uncle, Jerry Aguirre; his former wife and mother of his children, Linda Lee Rowley; and numerous niece and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son, Dennis Ray Rowley; his father, Don Robert Couch; grandfather, Dora Stultz; grandmothers, Ethel and Ida Stultz; a sister, Virginia “Ginny” Ivey; a brother, Bill Phipps; a brother-in-law, Duke Wycoff; aunt and uncle, Myrtle and Walt Hammond; an aunt, Margaret Davis; and his stepfather, John  “Woody” Torpy.

Larry was an avid race fan and race car owner. He loved racing and sponsoring race cars. He often ran three classes of cars being, street stocks, modifieds, and bombers. He was very proud of his drivers, Kenny Carmichael Sr. and Kenny Carmicheal Jr. He also enjoyed going to auctions and collecting and buying antiques.

Funeral services are noon Friday in Fitzpatrick Funeral Home with the Rev. Jim Scarbrough officiating. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today. Burial will be in New Providence Cemetery.
