CLINTON — Kenneth Nickels, 78, of Clinton, and formerly of Dana, died at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013, in Palm Terrace of Mattoon, Ill.. He retired from Flexel of Covington after many years of service. He was born March 18, 1934, in Dana, to the late Walter Nickels and Emily Myers Nickels.
Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Marsha Nickle Nickels, whom he married Oct. 8, 1969, in Dana; four sons, Kevin Nickels of Dana, Jay D. “Buster” (Sabrina) Nickels of Rockville, Brian (Michelle) Nickels of Dana, and Scott (Crystal) Nickels of Surprise, Ariz.; one daughter, Kenna (Mike) Evans of Clinton; one brother, Lowell (Joan) Nickels of Clinton; one sister, Loretta Birdsong of Brownsburg; 17 grandchildren, Alyssa Dossett, Logan and Keonna Douglas, Jared Evans, Matt Evans, Michael Evans, Brittany Peebles, Amanda Nickels, Kevin “Jr” Nickels, Jason Nickels, Josh Nickels, Caleb Nickels, Brianna Nickels, Nate Nickels, Nick Nickels, Jeff Nickels and Jessica Nickels; nine great-grandchildren, Clayton, Ashton, Dane, Hadleigh, Stella, Ryleigh, Bostyn, Bella and Lily.
He was a 1952 graduate of Dana High School. He served with the U.S. Army. He was a member of Dana First United Methodist Church. He loved to square dance and enjoyed poetry.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013, in Overpeck-Gooch Funeral Home, 225 N. Maple St., Dana, with the Rev. Paul Ellis officiating. Burial will follow in Bono Cemetery, at Dana. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. today. Friends may sign on online guest register at: www.goochfuneralhome.com
