Harry James Jukes


TERRE HAUTE — CROWLEY, La. — Memorial services will be held Saturday, April 13, 2013, at 1:30 p.m. in the Chapel of Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home, in Crowley, for Harry James Jukes, 82, who passed into the hereafter on Sunday, April 7, 2013, at 8:50 p.m. at Kindred Hospital in Lafayette following a lengthy illness.

After serving his country in the U.S. Navy for four years, Mr. Jukes spent his adult life in Crowley. Having retired from Texaco after 31 years, he worked a number of years for the Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office. He will be remembered as an avid sports fan having played high school basketball, minor league baseball for the Kansas City Athletics and the Crowley Millers, KC softball teams and coaching baseball for the Crowley Recreation Department and the Crowley American Legion Post 15 team. He had a passion for deer hunting, having many hunting “buddies” in the Texas hill country and Indiana.

The Rev. Loyd Singley will officiate the services. The family requests visiting hours Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to service time.

Mr. Jukes is survived by his wife of 56 years, Judy H. Jukes; one son, James Brian

“Jimmy” Jukes; one daughter, Margaret Alice Jukes; and a granddaughter that he raised, Sherry Lynn Jukes Miller and her husband Lucas; four grandsons, David Nicholas Wilkerson, James Brian “Gus” Jukes, Jon Blake Jukes and Cody Kinser Jukes; two granddaughters, Leigh Ann Jukes and Baleigh Whitman; five great-grandchildren, Zoe Leigh, Logan Chance, Sophie Lynn, Ellie Kate and Ezra James Miller; three sisters, Mary K. Keltz (his twin sister), Ruth Ann Hunter, and Olive “Susie” Daily; two sisters-in-law, Mary Evelyn Jukes and Lois Jukes; a dear friend, Sharon Huxford; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Olive Comer Jukes; three brothers, Raymond, William, and John Bernard Jukes; three brothers-in-law, Kenneth Keltz, Sr., Richard Hunter, and Jess Daily; his dear hunting friend, Bobby Joe Huxford.

On Saturday, April 20, 2013, visitation will be held at Cottrell-Gooch Funeral Home,  in Rosedale, Ind., from 10:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. followed by graveside services to be officiated by Rev. Randal McPike. As Mr. Jukes requested, he will be laid to rest in the Rosedale Cemetery.
