Elzia “EL-Shaft” Stevens, 62, died on Thursday, March 28, 2013, at Union Hospital. He was born Oct. 8, 1950, in Terre Haute, to John H. and Louise (Curlin) Stevens Sr. He was a 1969 graduate of the former Gerstmeyer High School. He was a member of the Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, where he was the sound room operator.
He was preceded in death by his father; and one brother, John H. Stevens Jr. He is survived by his mother, Louise Stevens of Indianapolis; one brother, Paul D. Stevens of Indianapolis; four sisters, Linda and Delores Stevens of Cleveland, and Joann and Charlotte Stevens of Indianapolis; one special nephew, Jonathan Stevens Sr. of Terre Haute; three aunts; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives. and friends.
Services will be 12 noon Tuesday, April 2, 2013, at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, 2401 7th Ave., with the Rev. T. Michael Russell officiating. Visitation will be 10 a.m. until time of services.
