Martha “Ernesteen” Lee, 93, of Terre Haute, passed away at 1:31 p.m. on Wednesday, April 3, 2013, in Terre Haute Regional Hospital. She was born in Patricksburg, Ind., on March 4, 1920, to Samuel Collie Bryant and Goldie Shear Bryant.
She is survived by her daughter, Mary Heller; grandchildren, Tammy Terry and husband Greg, Terry Johnson and wife Debi, Toni Johnson; and a very special friend who was like another granddaughter to her, Beth Truax. She also is survived by three great-grandchildren, Erin Terry, Jennifer Higgs and husband Kevin, and Christina Johnson; as well as five great-great-grandchildren. Ernesteen also is survived by her brother, Walter Wayne Bryant; two sisters, Altha Mitchel and June Pittsenbarger; a special sister-in-law, Mildred Johnson; several nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert Franklin Lee; a daughter, Patricia Steigerwald; and one brother, Malcolm Bryant.
Ernesteen was an avid gardener and loved her flowers, enjoyed knitting and crocheting, as well as being an avid supporter of the Indiana State Sycamores.
Funeral services will be held in DeBaun Springhill Chapel, 85 E. Springhill Drive, on Monday, April 8, 2013, at 1 p.m., with Pastor Rick Swan officiating. Burial will follow in New Harmony Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for Sunday, April 7, 2013, from 2 to 6 p.m. in the funeral chapel. The family requests memorial contributions be made to the Terre Haute Humane Society, in her memory.
