TERRE HAUTE — Michael Harlen Swisher, 58, of Terre Haute, passed away quietly with his loving family by his side on Saturday, March 23, 2013, after a short battle with cancer. He was born Sept. 7, 1954, at Turner Air Force Base in Albany, Ga., to Harlan and Elaine Swisher. Michael graduated from Swansboro, N.C., and had worked at the Putnamville Correctional Facility for over 24 years.

Mike loved spending time with his family and friends. He was an avid skilled gamer. Playing World of Warcraft and DOA, making alliances with friends from all over the United States and world, including India, England, and Canada. However, Michael always kept his family as his closest allies. Michael touched many people's lives and was loved by all that knew him. He will be greatly missed by all.

Michael was preceded in death by his mother and father. He is survived by his four children, Amanda Wyatt (Randy Altman) of Portsmouth, Va., Michael Swisher Jr. of Hampton, Va., Joshua Swisher (Tory Carter-Alvis) of Charleston, Ill., and Andrea Swisher of Terre Haute; four grandchildren, Taylor and Ethan Wyatt, Temperance Altman, and Jayden Swisher; four sisters, Terry (Butch) Johnson, Carolyn (Stoney) Brewer, Sandy (Terry) Nelson, and Cindy (Erich) Keller; as well as several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and his many friends, especially those at Putnamville Correctional Facility.

Funeral service for Michael will be held Wednesday, April 3, 2013, at 1 p.m. at Greiner Funeral Home, 2005 North 13th Street, in Terre Haute, with the Rev. Merrill Weir Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday April 2, 2013, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Online condolences may be made at:
