Ronald Leo Grigsby Sr.

2 Timothy 4:7 -  I have fought the good, worthy, honorable and noble fight, I have finished the race, I have kept, firmly held, the faith.

Ronald Leo Grigsby Sr. passed away peacefully on May 1, 2013. He was born Feb. 27, 1941, at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Terre Haute to Leo Grigsby and Ruth Florence Uzzell Grigsby. His mother passed away when Ronald and his sister were very young. He was reared by his Aunt Inez Uzzell and grandparents, David C. and Anna Uzzell. Ronald was educated in the local school system and graduated from Wiley High School. While in High School, he excelled as both a member of the football and the track teams.

After graduating from high school, he attended Indiana State University. He served his country by joining the Marine Corps, where he was stationed in Parris Island, S.C. He completed tours of duty in Okinawa, Japan, and Vietnam. He was a "tanker" (drove combat tanks) and he continued his education in the Marines by becoming an aviation mechanic. After completing his military service, Ronald settled down in Memphis, Tenn.

Ronald worked for and retired from DuPont and Lucite Corporations with over 30 years of service. At both DuPont and Lucite, he worked as a plant maintenance mechanic, a fire fighter and was a member of the emergency response team.

Ronald loved and mastered the art of barbecuing and hosted many memorable 4th of July BBQ parties by his pool. He loved entertaining friends and family at his home and loved to travel, spending a lot of time in New Orleans with Jana. He kept active by running and riding his bike.

Ronald accepted the Lord as his personal Savior, was baptized in July 2007 and was a very active member of Liberty Church of God in Christ in Memphis. At Liberty, he was a deacon, trustee and head of the security team. He absolutely loved the Lord and his church.

Ronald was a God fearing and giving man; if he liked you, you were family, but no one went without. He had a love for children and would do anything to ensure that they had what they needed. He loved fly fishing looking forward to his annual fishing trip to Dale Hollow Lake, Tenn., with his son and a host of friends. He also loved hunting in the hills of Pennsylvania.

Ronald leaves to honor and cherish his memory his partner, Jana Kinkle of Memphis; his children, Ronald Leo Grigsby Jr. (Krystal) of Harrisburg, Pa., Karen Grigsby and Sharon Grigsby of Terre Haute, Ind.; grandchildren, Michelle Ward of Terre Haute, Ronald Grigsby III (Jessica), Ryan Grigsby, Rachelle Broggin (Earl), and Nia Grigsby; great-granddaughter, Leah Rose Grigsby, all of Harrisburg; Uncle Robert Uzzell; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
