Elisabeth R. ‘Bette’ (Bond) McPheeters Cagle

BRAZIL — Elisabeth R "Bette" (Bond) McPheeters Cagle, 92, of Brazil, passed away on March 26, 2013, at 7:15 a.m., at Meadows Manor North, with her family by her side. Bette was born Oct. 27, 1920, in Shoals, the daughter of the late Hubert and Nyta (Gunkel) Bond. She was a part of the Garfield High School graduating class of 1939. Bette married the late Malcolm McPheeters on July 3, 1948, where she resided in other areas of the United States while Malcolm was serving in the U.S. Air Force. Bette married the late Wayne Cagle in January of 1969. Bette retired from the Vigo County School Corporation where she retired as cafeteria cook. She worked many jobs but was an artist at heart.

Bette attended Berea Christian Church. She was a member of the Clay County Home Economics Club, and Lady’s Auxiliary Post 104. She was a wonderful seamstress, cook, and painter. She enjoyed being with people, painting china, ceramics, among other things.  

She is preceded in death by her parents, Hubert and Nyta Bond; husbands, Byron Wayne Cagle, Malcolm L McPheeters, and Joseph Sims; sister, Ann Bennett; brother, Hubert Bond; and grandson, Neil Sims

Bette is survived by her sons, Joseph Marc Sims and wife Lesia of Indianapolis, George Douglas McPheeters of Greenwood, Martin Lynn McPheeters of Greenwood, Drew McPheeters and wife Julie of Colorado Springs, Colo.; daughter, Beth Lutz and husband Emory of Terre Haute; stepdaughter, Janice Deakins and husband Harold of Brazil; six grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Florence Bond of Terre Haute; special friend, Chiz Henrichs of Brazil; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.

Service will be Friday, March 29, 2013, at 1 p.m., at Lawson-Miller Chapel. Burial will follow at New Harmony Cemetery, in Prairieton. Visitation will be Thursday, March 28, 2013, from 4 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the American Heart Association, 3816 Paysphere Circle, Chicago, IL 60674-0001; or the American Cancer Society, 5635 W. 96th St., Suite 100, Indianapolis, IN 46278.
