Hugh Franklin “Hugo” Burris Sr., 71, of Clinton, died at Union Hospital Clinton, on March 30, 2014, at 11:05 p.m. He was born May 17, 1942, in Detroit, to John F. Burris and Elizabeth McLeish Burris. He was Christian by faith. He had worked for Mikes Motors, was a Clinton City policeman from 1965-1970, and retired from Peabody Coal Mine.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Ann Harrison Burris; four children, Frank Burris Jr. and Larinda Hayes of Plainfield, Mary Jane and Kevin Smith of Montezuma, Mark and Tracy Burris of Rolla, Mo., and Robert and Deena Burris; seven grandchildren, Carrie Lovellette, Joshua Smith, Elizabeth Lyn Lewis, Emily Burris, Benjamin Burris, Hannah Burris, and Hayley Burris; two great-grandchildren, Elyjah Lovellette and Kohen Smith; his mother-in-law, Jane Harrison of Clinton; sister-in-law, Jeanie Kelsheimer of Clinton; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday in Frist Funeral Home. Services will be held 2 p.m Friday, with Bob Howard officiating. Burial will follow in Walnut Grove Cemetery. If friends desire, donations may be made to the Parke-Vermillion Humane Society.
