Edward Ray Giles

Edward Ray Giles, 84, of Chrisman, and formerly of Marshall, Ill., went to his heavenly home on Thursday, March 13, 2014, at Pleasant Meadows Senior Living after a long struggle with Parkinson’s disease. Ed was born on July 14, 1929, in Dana, Ind., the son of William F. Giles and Hettie (Ryland) Giles. He married Betty Jones in Hammond and she preceded him in death. He later married Haroldine (Kintz) Harper on Aug. 3, 1969 in Brownstown, Ill.

He proudly served our country in the U.S. Army from 1943 - 1945, stationed in Japan. Ed greatly loved woodworking, working in the yard and the pure beauty of nature. Ed loved serving his Lord and preaching the gospel. He served many churches as the pastor, bus pastor and Sunday school teacher. He also worked as a tool and die maker; a manufacturing engineer for Singer Corporation corporate staff and was an on-air voice for Word Power Radio.

Ed is survived by his wife of 44 years, Haroldine; five children, Dawn (Lali) Singh of New Mexico, Claudia Ponce of Evansville, Wis., Annette (Thom) Ingersoll of Madison, Wis., Kimberly (Billy) Hardas of Chrisman, and Brent (Susan) Harper of Elloree, S.C.; two sisters, Wanda Ochoa and Dora Brown, both of Port Hueneme, Calif.; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife; and five sisters and four brothers.
