Earnest Lee Hutchins

MARSHALL — Earnest Lee Hutchins, 86, of Marshall, Ind., died at 5:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 3, 2014, in his residence. Born on April 16, 1927, in Summerville, Ga., to Charles W. and Alice Lowe Hamby Hutchins. He married Rosemary Holloway on Nov. 22, 1953, in Vermilion, Ill., and she died Feb. 24. 2009. He was a graduate of Menlo High School, in Menlo, Ga., and a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.   

 Survivors include three sons, Charles L. Hutchins (Sheryl) of Carmel, Brian K. Hutchins (Mary) of Thorntown, and  William K. Hutchins of Marshall, Ind.; eight grandchildren, Hannah Hutchins, Hank Hutchins, Hogan Hutchins, Ellie Hutchins, Wil Hutchins, John Hutchins, Falicia (Brandon) Lowery, and Sarah Hutchins; two great-grandchildren, Finley Lowery and Cole Stratman; one sister, Barbara Alford of Union City, Ga.; and two brothers, Wilburn Hutchins and Gene Hutchins, both of Summerville.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; four sisters, Rose Kennedy, Charlene Rinehart, Dixie Clayton, and Ruth Knuckols; and three brothers,  J.C., Jack and Tom Hutchins.

 He began his career in Propane business by managing Overpeck Gas Company, Marshall, for over 30 years; former owner of Marshall Propane Supply, Marshall; Fowler Bottle Gas Company, Fowler; and Sagamore Gas & Appliances, Colfax, Ind.

He was a member of Marshall Federated Church, Indiana Propane Gas Association, Bloomingdale Lodge 127 Free & Accepted Masons, Elks Lodge 2471, Rockville, American Legion Post 48, Rockville, Zorah Shrine, Terre Haute, and Scottish Rite Lodge, Terre Haute.

 Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2014, at Marshall Federated Church, in Marshall, with the Revs. Don Perry and Dennis Moody officiating. Burial is in Bethany Cemetery, in Marshall. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2014, church. Memorial contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, 911 E. 86th St., #100, Indianapolis, IN 46240. Arrangements by Barnes and Rice Funeral Home, in Rockville.
