Mary Jane Lindley

WEST UNION, Ill. — WEST UNION, Ill. — Mary Jane Lindley, 91, a former longtime resident of West Union, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2014, surrounded by her loving family at Union Hospital in Terre Haute, Ind. Mary Jane was the daughter of Vernon and Jennie Cline, and was born on Aug. 8, 1922. On Aug. 7, 1948, Mary Jane married Willis Lindley of West Union.

Mary Jane was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was a wonderful homemaker and cook who enjoyed spending time with her family. While serving as a rural mail carrier for 31 years, Mary Jane befriended many in the West Union Community before retiring at the age of 76. She was particularly beloved amongst the children on her route for delivering candy and kind words along with the mail. Mary Jane was also a member of the Eastern Star, the Rural Mail Carrier’s Association and the West Union Christian Church.

Mary Jane was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Willis; her parents; and her brothers, Robert and Richard Cline. Mary Jane is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Vicki and Donnie O’Rourke and daughter, Donna Lindley and her companion Vince Sappingfield. Mary Jane was the proud grandmother to Kelly Clegg, Erin Schildt and Vanessa Jane Hendrickson. She was great-grandmother to Ryan and Meagan Schildt, Chloe Clegg and Sophie Jane and Bennett Hendrickson. She also is survived by several nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Mary Jane will be sadly missed by those who loved her, but her memory will always be cherished in their hearts.

A celebration of her life will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014, at 1:30 p.m. CST at Pearce Funeral Home, 314 S. 6th St., in Marshall. Burial will follow at Marshall Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Saturday from 11:30 a.m. until the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association or Riley Children’s Hospital.
