Thelma L (Cooksey) Hughbanks

BRAZIL — Thelma L (Cooksey) Hughbanks, 92, of Brazil, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 28, 2013, at Community South Hospital with her family by her side. Thelma was born Sept. 13, 1921, in Clay County, the daughter of the late Raymond Cooksey and Bertha (Mitscher) Cooksey Theiss. She worked as a nurse’s aide at Clay County Health Center and Cloverleaf Nursing Home. Thelma married the love of her life, William Hughbanks, on Feb. 24, 1940.

Thelma enjoyed reading, puzzles and crossword puzzles in her free time. She took the greatest pride in when she was able to spend time with her family, especially the grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 59 years, William Hughbanks; daughter, Marilyn (Nicholls) Smith; and brothers, Clyde Cooksey and Raymond Jr. Cooksey.

Thelma is survived by her children, John Hughbanks and wife Janet of Harmony, Linda Knauer and husband Warren of Greenwood, and Alan Hughbanks and wife Lynn of Carbon; grandchildren, Paula Hughbanks, Melissa Hughbanks, Kevin Hughbanks and wife Elaina, Danielle Hughbanks, Nick Hughbanks, Brian Nicholls and wife Joey, Summer Stewart, Autumn Randall, and Erin Knauer; great-grandchildren, Lindsey, Kaitlyn, Jaylen, Kelsey, Mackenzy, Lily, Luke, Tye, Baileigh, Alexandria, Dakota, and Mackayla, Zach; great-great-grandchildren, Lila, Gavin, and Trinitea; sisters, Norma Martin and Eva Hayes; sister-in-law, Miriam Cooksey; son-in-law, Raymond Smith; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Service will be Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2014, at 2 p.m. at French Funeral Home with the Rev. Kenny Thomas officiating. Burial will follow at Summit Lawn cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2013, from 3 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Music will be provided by Mr. Steve McCullough. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to American Cancer Society, 5635 West 96th St., Suite 100, Indianapolis, IN 46278. Visit to light a candle in her remembrance.
