Sharon Rose Payne

BRAZIL — Sharon Rose Payne, 59, of Brazil, died suddenly Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2013, at her residence. She was born Dec. 25, 1953, in Vermillion County, the daughter of Forrest W. “Monk” Payne and Luetta Webster Payne. She graduated from Rosedale High School. She worked as a home health aide for a time, and then began working at Clay County Hospital. She worked her way up to the front office admitting at St. Vincent Clay Hospital, retiring several years ago due to health problems.  

Sharon loved her animals and cared for many dogs and cats. She was a loving sister and aunt.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, George Payne and Joseph Payne; two nephews, Forrest Gene Havey and James Douglas Payne. Survivors include her two sisters, Sara Havey (Gene) of Reelsville and Carol Ann Jacob (Michael) of Seelyville; three brothers, Jerry Lee Payne (Geraldine) of Groveland, James Earl Payne (Carolyn) of Carbon and Donald Ray Payne (Lynn) of Bridgeton; two sisters-in-law, Mary Ann Payne of Waldron, Ind., and Joyce Payne of Rosedale; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.

A memorial service for Sharon will be held Monday, Dec. 30, 2013, at 7 p.m. at French Funeral Home, 421 E. National Ave., in Brazil, with Pastor Perry Mager officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Burial of her ashes will be at Clear Run Cemetery at a later date. If friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Clay County Humane Shelter. Light a candle in her memory at:
