Norma Joan (Jones) Morlan

BRAZIL — BRAZIL — Norma Joan (Jones) Morlan, 88, of Brazil, passed away on Dec. 17, 2013, at St Vincent Clay Hospital with her family by her side. Norma was born Oct. 6, 1925, in Carbon, the daughter of William and Helen (Dowell) Jones. She graduated from Van Buren High School. Norma married the late William Gayle Atkinson in 1945. Then she later married Clarence W. Morlan. Norma and her husband were owners of Marquee Manufacturing Company.

Norma was a member of Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church. She was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagle Lodge 274, where she served as secretary for many years. Norma enjoyed stock car racing, Indianapolis 500, Colts football, mushroom hunting and IU Basketball. She was known for her wonderful cooking ability, especially her fried chicken recipe. She took great pride in her love of music, which she has passed down through many generations of her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clarence W. Morlan; brothers, J Don Jones, and Neil Jones; daughter, Jan Etta Diane (Atkinson) Paullus.

Norma is survived by her daughter, Tyra Joan Handlin; grandson, Douglas Paullus; granddaughters, Angela Atkinson and fiancé John Kaelber and Vanessa (Paullus) Miller and husband Trent; great-granddaughters, Alexandra (Atkinson) Taylor and husband Neil, and Kathryn Joan Coltharp; great-grandson, Nicholas Wayne Coltharp; great-great-grandson, Spencer Taylor; great-great-granddaughter, Raegan Taylor; as well as many extended family and friends.

Service will be Saturday, Dec. 21, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church with Father John Hollowell officiating. Burial will follow at Clear Run Cemetery in Bridgeton. Visitation will be Friday, Dec. 20, 2013, from 4 until 8 p.m. at French Funeral Home. Rosary will take place at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, 415 E Church St, Brazil, IN 47834.
