Joyce Elaine McWilliams

PARIS, IL — Joyce Elaine McWilliams, 73, of Paris, went Home to be with her Lord at 5 p.m. Wednesday, July 10, 2013, in her residence. She was born July 20, 1940, along with her twin sister, Judith, at home in Maroa, Ill., to the late Howard Carroll Brown and the late Gladys Lanter Brown.

Survivors include her husband, Dr. Floyd McWilliams; her son, Reid McClintock of Springfield, Ill.; her daughter, Katherine Inboden of Terre Haute; and stepchildren, Barbara Elledge Brown of Livonia, Mich., Brenda Elledge of Paris, Dr. Stephen Elledge (Mitzi) of Brookline, Mass., and Floyd (Sherrie) McWilliams of Sunnyvale, Calif. Joyce is survived by grandchildren, Audrey Inboden, and Mackenzie and Olivia McClintock; stepgrandchildren, Daniel and Susanna Elledge, Bobby Pembor, Jonathan Byrnes, Kristie Pelc, Cherie Baker, and Jason and Alan McWilliams; her twin sister, Judith Brown of Henderson, Nev.; and her brother, Jack (Helen) Brown of Decatur, Ill. She was predeceased by one brother, Howard Brown. She was married to William McClintock (deceased) and Joseph Elledge (deceased).

Joyce graduated from Passavant Hospital and Northwestern Medical Center in Chicago, with a diploma in nursing and Graceland University, Lamoni, Iowa, with a BSN. Joyce was the first nurse in the Wabash Valley to become Oncology Nursing Certified, under the sponsorship of Dr. Roger Robison. She and Mary Fazekas started the first oncology support group at Regional Hospital, under the supervision of Dr. Robison. While working at the VNA of the Wabash Valley, she was written up in the Terre Haute Tribune-Star, worked on their first ethics panel, case managed and did quality assurance. After retiring full time from nursing, she worked part time caring for the Sisters of Providence at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods until shortly before her 70th birthday.

In June, 2007, she married Dr. McWilliams. They traveled to 43 cities in 21 countries, enjoyed playing bridge (she made Life Master in 2012), Shakespeare Club (she was the club secretary for many years), knitting and reading. Floyd McWilliams continues to work full time teaching math at Indiana State University. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Paris, from 1977, and served on the Altar Guild for 30 years of which she was formerly treasurer.

Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. CDT Sunday, July 14, 2013, in Stewart and Carroll Funeral Home, 303 E. Wood St., in Paris. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday, July 15, 2013, in Grace Lutheran Church with Pastor Ryan Fehrmann officiating. Burial will follow in Edgar Cemetery.
